The Even More Current State of CCC


So... Unity, eh?

Let's cut straight to the chase. If you're not aware of recent events, long story short: Unity introduced some asinine new policies/pricing, and is now facing a lot of (justified) backlash from game developers from all over the internet. Many have already made the choice to switch to other engines. If you want to know more, the information is out there.

Chub Chomp Chill is also made in Unity.

I'm personally not affected monetarily by Unity's new pricing scheme (I wish I was making enough to be affected, haha), but the decisions they've been making lately have immensely damaged my trust in the company. I was already thinking about picking up Godot for future projects, and recent events seem to be making that decision even easier.

But as a surprise to me, I've actually been seeing rumors and speculation posts on the fate of Chub Chomp Chill. First of all, I'm flattered you all care so much. Second of all,

CHUB CHOMP CHILL IS NOT CANCELED.

I've worked way too long and too hard to just throw this entire game away because of a company's dumb choices. Some of you might be thinking "can you port it over to another engine like Unreal or Godot"? No, I can't. 0.6 is essentially the third time I've remade this game, and I don't have it in me to do it again. Let alone while learning a new engine. Unless you all want to wait until 2025 for 0.6. CCC 0.6 is still coming out. And will remain to be made in Unity until it's finished development. Whenever that is. I'm still not entirely sure when a game like this can be counted as "done". Theoretically, there's nothing stopping me from just renaming 0.6 to 1.0 and calling it a day.

But anyway, that’s the basic gist of the situation. Chub Chomp Chill is still coming. I thank you all for your patience. And I’ll hopefully be able to show even more soon.

oh it's not canceled? GOOD. also who cares if you rename 0.6 to 1.0? i mean like 0.6 is the closest thing to 1.0.

on that note did you know that the unity changes affect Nintendo and Disney as well and we all know how Disney lawyers can be the literal text book definition of ruthless so lets see unity owners save themself from that <.<

I would say, just drop 6 when its done then make another, simple game in a new engine; to learn it, then try and remake CCC.  Take your time, we are patiently waiting.

I really appreciate your passion about this project. Changing engines is way harder than one can think as every engine handles things differently and has a different workflow. You should first change the engine when you find one you're comfortable with. Porting the game now will be too much of a chore, except you decide to remade it for a fourth time.

I still expect that the whole Unity situation will get worse and will force you to change, but I do hope it will be after you finished this game.
